Kamloops to Golden

Saturday, Sept 9th

We were both so tired yesterday, me after spending the day doing laundry, Ray trying to get the Sat dish operational. His back was also hooped again from the day before from packing up so he had to take some "extra strength" pain medication which does not enable him to sleep very well. Thursday night before leaving Paska was a writeoff for him. I also drove 20 minutes back into town to get more parts in hopes of Ray being able to change out more cabling once we get to Lake Louise and the roof is dry.

Soon as I got home from "The Source" it was time to cook dinner. While I was in town the torrential rains began. Traffic was horrible so I decided to take Shuswap Road back on the other side of the river back to the RV Park, bypassing Hwy 1. I could just see an accident waiting to happen with wet roads after a long dry spell, poor visability and everyone slowing down and others trying to go faster than necessary. Yikes!!!! I did see the Rocky Mountain Sheep again in the same spot as the day before when we went out for dinner. By the time I got 1/3 of the way back the rain stopped, making my drive a whole bunch nicer.

Ray and I both crashed into bed at 8:00 pm and I think we were both asleep by 8:30 pm. Of course going to bed so early we were up at 4:45 am and carried on packing to leave. After fueling up at the Super Save Gas just up the road (diesel at $1.04) we were on the road by 7:30 am. Managed to miss most of the traffic and had a nice leisurely drive through Revelstoke NP and Glacier NP. We stopped at the Illecillewaet Campground in Glacier, as we had planned to stop there for the night, but it was still pouring and we thought that running the generator all day would be a pain in the butt so onwards we went and stopped in Golden. (The Glacier NP campsite had about 5 spots that would fit us .... but none that would fit you guys, Steve and Dianne) Here's a couple of pictures I took through the window at Glacier NP. Still some snow from last winter.

Last summer we stopped in Golden at the Whispering Pines RV Park (an old KOA) so that's what we did today. The drawing card was of course is "The Golden Tap Brew Pub" where we decided to have lunch, great beer, good food, well worthwhile.

With the loss of an hour switching to Mountain Time it won't feel so bad going to bed early!!! lol Tomorrow it is off to Lake Louise where we are booked in for 3 nights. The weather is supposed to be good so we shall see.

  1. We just got to Saskatchewan. Will be in Red Deer on 24th for a couple of days. Are you guys expecting to still be in the Banff/Lake Louise area then?

  2. We are in Banff until the Sept 16th and then staying at an RV Park north of Calgary for the 17 and 18th to have some repairs done to our satellite TV dish. If we have to wait for parts etc we would be there until the dish is repaired. Our plans though, are to stay for the 2 nights and then head south to Cardston and stay at Lee's Campground for 2 nights before crossing into the US on Sept 21st. Keep in touch as you never know with "jello plans". It would be nice to catch up with a good "chin wag". lol Safe travels
