April 2012 - Selling the house and moving to the fifth wheel

April 1st

Today is move into the 5th wheel day.  I spent last 3 weeks changing out the dishes, pots and pans etc for my good stuff.  All the pantry items went in yesterday and today the fridge will be emptied into the trailer.  It's amazing how much actually stowed away!  We have a huge dump run this morning, after the help of Ray's brother loading up the truck for me yesterday in exchange for prime rib dinner.

Tomorrow, the house will be listed and we will have it staged.  Ray and the dog will be stuck in the trailer so "paw marks", sand, water marks etc. remain off the hardwoods.  I will however continue to use the dishwasher!  We will also use the bathroom shower etc to save too much water from going into the holding tanks.  The realtor's estimate is that the house should be sold within 30 to 45 days... I will believe it when I see it.  If it goes quickly then I will be able to move back into the house until closing which will make things easier.

The dream is getting closer!

Here's praying and hoping the realtor is right and the house sells quickly for you.

April 3rd

Well the open house for realtors went well apparently.  Twenty plus realtors came through the house this morning and generated one showing tonight at 5:30.... So fingers crossed this whole process will not take more than a month!  This afternoon the photographer came and took the pictures for the MLS listing and should be uploaded tomorrow.

Still dreaming but it is coming closer!

That's great that you already had a showing. Fingers and toes all crossed for you.

April 11th

We travelled up the east coast of the island for a beautiful weekend at Saratoga Beach on east Vancouver Island.  Four days of sun and warm temperatures.  Freya is thrilled at running on the sand and water.  The tide was low every afternoon so it became a fantastic off leash dog park.  The sunrises are amazing and the fiery moon every evening.  It is not this nice at Easter usually!

The trailer went back to the "trailer hospital" after the weekend, as the fridge freezer is still having issues. They say they found the problem so we should get it back tomorrow or Friday which will be wonderful! We had a house showing on Tuesday and we have another one tomorrow. Fingers crossed. It will be great to get Ray and the dog back into the trailer instead of messing up the floors. Tried to get a video attached but alas I am not too good at this blogging yet!

April 17th

We all moved into the 5th in the yard last Friday night to cut down on the cleaning at 5am before showings!  The fridge is fixed! It only took them a year.  The manufacture installed it incorrectly and some kind of heat venting was directed at the freezer.  No wonder it would not freeze on the left side!  We are still using the bathrooms and dishwasher and I get changed in the house for work.  The plan seems to be working okay.  We only had two showings last week and Ray kept his eye peeled for "lookyloos" on Friday and Saturday and showed the house twice himself.  Those people seem more promising than the two groups that came through with Real Estate.

Campsite in our yard.

Good looking camp site. And it definitely is easier to keep the house show ready if you aren't living in it. Thank goodness they finally figured out what was wrong with the freezer.

Your summer camp looks so inviting.  Was wondering how it works,  do you pay a yearly rate so you always have the same spot?  Is it closed in the winter?  Just wondered where you would stay if you needed to spend the winter in B.C.
I did try to find Macktush's info on line.... but no luck.

Will be reading to see how the house selling goes....

Hi Kelly,

We lease the same spot every year from the first weekend in May until the end of September for $1500.00 per season.  We have had this spot for 15 years, “we have the first right of refusal”.  We are able to anchor our boat right out front if we choose and dingy back in forth.  That comes in handy for sockeye fishing come middle of June to the middle of July.  We just wait for the fish to come to us!  It is only open for the five months.  If we have to stay in BC we would probably stay at the Living Forest in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island a wonderful family owned campsite on the Nanaimo River estuary.  They do have a web site.  They are dog friendly and there is good dog walking places nearby.

A lot of prairie people stay there through the winter and then go back home for the summer.  They have reasonable winter rates but it goes up substantially for the summer season.  Another place to stay on the island is in Sidney, close to Victoria.  www.oceansideresortrv.com The weather in the Victoria is quite balmy all winter.  They usually do not see any snow and the sun shines there more than anywhere else on the coast of BC.  They are also dog friendly with walking areas on the beach quite close to the campsite.  Victoria has the renowned Galloping Goose Trail which goes for miles for walking and biking.

For summer options there are gorgeous camping areas up and down the island, some quite remote north on the island.  There are not “boondocking” areas as such but often Forest Service campsites available.  These however do not usually handle units over 25 feet and have limited services.

Hope all is well with you all, sorry about motormouse.  We have lost dogs and it hurts but having the Pheebs I am sure helps a great deal.  I love the pictures of her kissing the cows!

April 29th

We moved to our summer home as of last Wednesday night.  We cannot actually move into the site until next Friday, but we were able to rake up the leaves and put up the fence panels in advance.  Took a couple of days off work so that Ray would not do too much with his back.

The house is shown while we were gone and we have a second showing tomorrow... so it's doing the tidying and floors at 5am again.  With luck this will not take too long.

I am so looking forward to living in the trailer fulltime.  We are close though.  Ray will add pictures later when he takes some.

Still Dreaming.
