Quartzsite, AZ

We left Casa Grande after New Years and headed to Quartzsite where we will be staying for the next two weeks. Arriving on January 3rd there was still evidence of the "Great Flood" caused by the torrential rains here on New Year's Eve. Fortunately we missed that. There even was a homeless man in town that got stranded in Tyson Wells Wash on a small island with his dog. There is no rain in the forecast for the next 2 weeks. Good thing as some areas are still quite soft but we managed to find a great place just across from our friends Steve and Dianne. Looking forward to just relaxing in the sun and attending a few Happy Hours!

Our campsite:

After a minimal setup it was time to go over to Steve and Dianne's for Happy Hour. Dinner tonight will be BLT's as we are both tired from fighting our colds.

Steve, Allison, Earl, Ray, Barb and Jim and the back of my head.

Ray, Barb, Jim, Deb, Freya, Dianne, Allison and Art.

Wednesday we spent setting up, nailing down the rugs, putting up solar lights and setting out my hummingbird feeders. (The soft dirt sure made it much easier to stake the solar lights this year.) Ray took me out to lunch at the Grubstake for Fish and Chips. You get a huge quantity for $12. Created a bunch of leftovers for Ray tomorrow. It sure is a funky place. The owner mentioned that her pub and only 2 other businesses are open during the summer, Quartzsite is like a ghost town.

Look at the size of that fish!

I made Split Pea Soup with ham earlier in the morning so dinner was done for later. Steve and Dianne came over for an hour so we could catch up on news. Another lovely day in the desert.

Thursday we went into town for a quick look around for the best firewood prices. The rest of the day we spent finishing up the outside set-up and Ray did a little cleaning on the rig. Dianne and Steve came over for a drink before dinner. We sat inside as the wind was up and with a few clouds it became quite cool. It sure is nice to be back in this desert community. Everyone is so friendly whether you have met them before or not.

Friday Roberts Mobile RV Wash came to wash and wax the coach and car for their annual detailing. This year we are having them dealing with the oxidization on the roof as well. It is too hard on Ray to deal with that now and I am sure not climbing up there!

Saturday morning sunrise looking behind our rig ... gorgeous.

Today we are supposed to get a little rain shower this morning.... of course since we just had the rig washed and waxed.

Saturday at 4 pm was Happy Hour at Steve and Dianne's. They had a bunch of new friends and old ones, including us for a lovely evening. The last people left at 7:30 even though it was quite cool out.
