Valley of Fire, Feb 8th

Wednesday, up at 6 am … yes, the skies are clear. Everyone get ready for our trip to the fire wave. I made coffee and got the roast beast marinating. By the time everyone had cycled through getting ready with the bathroom and bedroom we were off at 6:45 am. First we stopped at one of the washes and walked to the west to catch the first morning rays of sun. The colours were fabulous, unbelievable. Glad we all got to experience this together. Kat kept saying "this is crazy!"

Next it was off to the Fire Wave, Freya and all of us had a blast walking though this very special area. We came back up the wash and Kristi jogged up the hill to bring the car back down to us. The pictures will tell the rest of the story. Wow! Wow! Wow!

Next it was off through the wash of what we call Rainbow Canyon ... not advertised!

The next part we do not have pics of Kristi as she scrambled up the rocks back the 3/4 mile hike to the parking lot to bring the car close for Ray.

Back home by 9:00 am. We had leftover pancakes and coffee. Fuelling up the girls again for the rest of their adventure in the park today. We gave them the park map and told them where to go that they cannot get lost! We shall see. Ray and I plan to stay home for the rest of the day, Ray needing to rest as this morning’s jaunt created some major pain so extra pain meds were in order. It was so worth it though he said. I am making Prime Rib with Yorkshires for dinner. Kristi’s favorite.

The girls came back at noon for more sustenance (i.e. any leftovers they could find in the fridge!) an then headed out for another trail …. That the parks people told them about. Hopefully they will not get lost! They should be back home by 4:30 pm after leaving at 1 pm. They were back by 3 … the hike was nothing special compared to our jaunt earlier this morning. Way too much deep sand to walk in so they toured the rest of the park they had yet to see.

Here are some of their pictures:

Yes Kristi, that is a trail marker!

Our two gorgeous girls.

Had a final campfire before dinner and Ray took a picture of our site with the solar light display.

Lots of compliments by the neighbours for the lights ... they were even walking into our campsite with their little ones to show them.
