Weekend Fun, Saltspring Island and Kristi comes to visit.

Saturday, the sun was actually trying to come out. We had made arrangements to go over to Saltspring Island to visit some bloggers who follow us and us them, Brad and Katie of http://www.theroguelesstravelled.com .  Ray and I left home at 8am as we had decided to stop for a coffee and donut before going to the ferry. With that on our mind we drove to Chemainus and found a lovely bakery to have coffee.

Choices, choices, what did Ray order?
After coffee I drove us to the ferry terminal in Chemainus and Ray took Freya for a walk. As I was sitting there looking at the ferry board, I realized that this ferry does not go to Saltspring! I called Ray on his cell and told him ... we were supposed to be at the Crofton ferry terminal. Yikes. Fortunately we had not yet paid and we were quite early. So, off we went on a 15 minute drive to the Crofton terminal. Had about 20 minutes to spare so Ray finished Freya's walk. Quite the circle tour.

While I was waiting at the terminal, Kristi called and wanted to come down to Lake Cowichan for the night as Jason has a dinner function for his fishing club to attend. So we will have to make sure we get back fairly early.

Ray took a walk up the ferry ramp to the park. Beautiful.

Loading onto the Crofton Ferry
About 15 minutes later we arrived at Vesuvius Ferry Terminal on Saltspring.
Approaching the ferry terminal  on Saltspring Island
After driving off the ferry it was only a 10 minute drive to the campground where Katie and Brad live. Ray and I had a great visit with them and then we all drove to the Oyster Bay Restaurant at the marina for lunch. I had the ling cod and chips and Ray the halibut and chips. This turned out to be some of the best we have ever had.

A fabulous visit guys. Hope you come over to the lake for a visit soon. With Kristi coming we did not have time to explore more of the island this visit, but there is always next time. lol

We managed to catch the 1:30 ferry back to Vancouver Island and home by 2:30. Kristi arrived just before we did. A great afternoon and evening with our daughter and her two dogs. After dinner we watched a movie.

Our dinner

The dogs dinner.
Sunday morning, everyone was up by 6 am other than me lol  Ray walked the dogs once daylight arrived and then Kristi and Ray had a morning hot tub.

After their soak, we decided to treat Kristi to an A&W breakfast before hitting the big craft fair at the Cowichan Valley Exhibition grounds which is on the way for Kristi to go back to Nanaimo. As soon as I loaded Freya into our car, the other two dogs jumped in not waiting for Kristi to open up her SUV!

It was a great venue and of course all of us purchased a couple of things for Christmas.

Back home by 11:30. We had to slow down on Highway 18 for awhile as we ended up behind a float for the parade in Lake Cowichan tonight at 5pm. Too bad the weather is so bad for it, we did not go.

Ray and I had a quiet afternoon, I had a nap and Ray's watching the Grey Cup.

  1. It was great to have you guys, so glad you took the initiative to come all that way to meet us. Very much look forward to seeing you again soon. Those are great pics of Crofton/Vesuvius, I really should lug my camera around instead of the iPhone.

  4. Well that post was much less stressful. We have never been to Saltspring Island but would like to check out some of the small Islands. Good to take a day off.... or lots of days off.
