Palm Springs and the Car Show

Friday, February 7th

Moving Day

I packed up the inside while Ray finished packing up the last of the outside, mats etc. He checked the tires etc and found out that our rear inside passenger tire was low on air again. We had the valve stem replaced in Apache Junction, it was "mickey moused" by putting 2 valve stems together as they did not have the correct one. Now it is leaking again. Ray tried to fill the tire up with our compressor but it was not filling up.

Left the campsite at 9:20, Ray to the dump to empty our tanks and I drove off to get our propane tanks filled up. We met up at the Loves Truck Tire Shop. They told us we had a 45 minute wait so we drove off for breakfast.

We got back and they still had not started with our tire. Finally after more waiting we were guided into their shop. I have to say this tire shop seemed to be the most incompetent place we have ever been. The crew do more standing around ... practice their whistles, laugh a lot and rarely touch their tools. Even though Ray relayed twice what the problem was, at no time did they say they did not have valve extension pieces. Finally they just took off the 2 extensions, the o-rings were squashed from being over tightened apparently, filled the tire and reinstalled the tires so we were on our way $40 lighter in our wallet. Ray should be able to reach the back tire valve with our air hose attachment and tire gauge so we will forget about valve extensions.

Finally on our way by 12 noon. A mostly uneventful drive other than we almost got hit by a red car speeding up our passenger side cutting over trying to pass us after the California Inspection Station. Ray was already in the process of moving over into the right hand lane when this dude decided he would pass us on the inside. A very scary moment. Did not see him until he was right beside the door. He totally ignored us signalling and moving slowly into the slow lane.

I had cooked up all my tomatoes and used up all my citrus so I would not have a problem at the inspection station. They never even stopped us, just waved us through. lol Well, I did have a good marinara sauce to use for dinner.

After gaining an hour coming into California we arrived at the Indian Waters RV Resort shortly after 2pm. After setup and Freya getting a walk, we decided to stay put and enjoy the afternoon. The whole tire situation tired us both out. Coming down into the valley the smog was unbelievable. You could barely see the mountains on the other side. Apparently all of this is from LA coming east, following the San Andreas Fault Line. It was a beautiful warm sunny afternoon though at 75F.

We were enjoying our cold beverages in the shade when we were surprised by two hot air balloons flying over us.

By 5:30 pm it was cooling down so we came in. Freya let me know it was dinner time. Actually it certainly was as to her stomach it was 6:30 pm. It will take a few days to get her into the new time.

I threw together my marinara sauce with some frozen shrimp and made some spaghetti. Dinner took all of 15 minutes and was delicious. Neither Ray or I felt like going anywhere else today. A quiet evening and in bed at 8:30 pm.

Saturday, February 8th

Another sunny day. We decided to attend the Dr. George Charity Car Show here in Indian Wells.  On a side note, with us having to switch from CDN to US programming, we would've normally missed an event like this but say a news story about it.

"Dr George Charity Car Show supporting Desert Cancer Foundation. Show is open to all street rods, classics, muscle cars, special intrest cars, trucks, and motorcyles. ... George Charity Car Show 2020 at Indian Wells Tennis Garden."

The event is held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. What an event, never seen so many cool cars in one place. There was even a car auction. Lots of food vendors. It was very well organized with traffic control and parking. The picture below is from google from 2018. There is a grass field on the bottom across the road that is as big as this area for parking. Totally huge.

Before getting there, we saw a sign for a carwash by some school kids so we got rid of the Quartzsite dust on the car. One of the 5 kids that were doing the washing.

Look at the crowd of people still coming in as we were leaving!

We only managed to see about half of it before both of us were done. Here are a bunch of Ray's pictures and he'll take over from here for the descriptions.

Deb seems to like this 35 Chev Coupe
Pair of 56 T Birds

57 Chev Bel Air (I'll take this one home)

This one can go in the imaginary garage too.

Ohh ya... and one of these

Too bad this one isn't for sale, I've always wanted one of these, but it's too late for a mid-life crisis.

OMG,  room for this in the garage as well.

Wonder if this flat tow?

Saw 8 of whatever these are.... just kidding Shelby Cobras

Lunch came from the onsite vendors and then back to the car as we still needed to do some shopping at Costco and Walmart. Ray stayed in the car while I took care of that chore. Back home for 12:30 pm and relaxed outside for the afternoon. No cooking for me tonight. We decided to go to a sushi place about a mile away. Reviews showed 4.6, best around Indio, it was just okay but filled our bellies nonetheless. Here is a picture of the full moon, Look at all the haze/pollution in the air.  Social media always wants to name the full moons these days.  This one is supposed to be the Snow Moon, Ray just calls it the Particulate Moon.

A very quiet night until Freya woke us up at 11:30 pm. There must have been a backfire that sounded like a gunshot as it took her awhile to settle again. Another fabulous day.
