Our last Quartzsite Sunset before leaving Sunday for Lake Havasu.
As check-in at Lake Havasu State Park isn't until 2, we slowed our morning routine getting ready to leave La Posa South. The bedroom slide with the new bed came in easily thankfully. We did find out though, the bed frame is a little longer than the original platform so the bed has to be tilted to close the passenger bedroom slide.
We were going to dump before we left but at 10:30 there were 7 in line so we decided to wait until we got to the State Park.
A beautiful drive along the Colorado River for half of the drive. There appears to be lots more boondocking sites closer to Lake Havasu than we remember.
We arrived at the park at 12:30 but our site is still occupied (check out is 12:00) so we went for lunch instead at Cha-Bones. They have beautiful decor and lighting. I ordered a delicious burger and Ray a beef dip.

Ray ate half before I took the picture. lol |

Back to the park to check in at 2 pm. Love our site in the Cabin Loop, C-4 . There are only a few spots you can get that don't have a cabin on the site in the Cabin Loop. Lovely water view.
Things started out so well..... until we deployed the bedroom slides. The slide with our new bed would not deploy all the way out and we realized the support box became twisted! OMG now the slide would not go out or come in.
I emptied out the under bed compartment. Ray called RV Decor (he answered on a Sunday) and he walked us through how to dissasemble the bed to get the box squared up and on the slide rollers. What a job. We had to unhook the air part of the sleep number bed, take the mattress off the bed frame, take off the bottom support panel from the rail system then lift the box and squish it back together putting it back on the slide rollers. This enabled the slide to go all the way out. Next Ray had to position the support legs inside the box so the rail system could rest on it so we could at least use the bed to sleep. All the screws are pulled away from the inside of the box so the supports were just loose. This took us 2 hours before we could finally sit on our beach with a cold beverage. Of course this was the warmest day yet at 24C/ 80F. Thankfully we were plugged in to use the A/C while we were wrestling with the bed. Amazingly we did not get angry with the bed or with each other, we just worked the problem together.
Now we have to go back to Yuma to have it fixed and must cancel our next reservation at Pismo Beach but it looks like we can get back to our "plan" for Monterey California after repairs. We decided to stay the 3 days I booked at the State Park as we have waited a year to get here since I made the reservations.
Here is a view out our front window.
We actually slept well and the bed did not collapse lol
Monday we woke to big wind, no bike ride today. Ray walked the park trail and took some pictures while I went to Walmart for some supplies and got my hair cut.

You can just see the ferry in the distance on the left of the lighthouse. The only boat we saw all day. |

An isolated picnic site off the lakeshore trail |
Looking at the main campground:

Definitely breezy on the water, the rushes in front were swaying. |
Once back, we went for lunch at Sake Sushi and Grill. Delicious. We are 2 for 2 meals here at Havasu. :) Delicous and reasonable price wise.
The rest of the day we stayed hunkered down inside watching the lake through our big window. Did 2 small loads of laundry and yes the dryer works great.
Tuesday, another sunny day. It's still supposed to be windy but not as bad as yesterday. Hopefully we can get out on our bikes. Ray took off at dawn to get some pictures of the London Bridge.

The large boat in centre is the ferry to the Havasu Landing Casino in California |
Today we decided to walk the river front starting from the Visitor's Centre. We found out we cannot ride our e-bikes on this path, only on the island inland trail loop which is only 3 miles long. Not what we expected. Not too windy today thankfully.

ET call home lol |
The beach bar Kokomo, of course with the cooler temps not really in use now. They even have a pool and suspended sound stage for live music.

Currituck Beach Lighthouse |

The Dixie Belle Tour boat |
Next up we jumped back in the car, drive over the London Bridge to tour the island and the London Bridge Beach.

Looking back at Lake Havasu City |

A sea of houses. We did see lots of new building going on in spite of water issues??? |

Lake Havasu Marina Lighthouse |
We were able to see these ones from checking out the Crazy Horse Campsite on the Island.

West Quoddy and East Quoddy Lighhouses |
Up next is the London Bridge Beach Park.

Lots of people walk this mile long path on the man-made Bridgewater Channel. |
After our tour we decided to have lunch at Red Robin Burger and Beer, always a good choice. :)
Back home we relaxed on the beach with a cold beverage. Ray managed to find us a spot out of the wind next to the reeds a short distance to our coach. Lovely.
|
Still a bit windy on the lake for tour boats. |
There were birds chirping like crazy in the reeds beside us until this bird flies by. He/she did that about every 10 minutes while we were sitting in our chairs soaking up the sun and all the chirping stopped.
After a bite to eat for dinner, Ray took off at dark for some sunset shots of the London Bridge. Nice that it's only a 5 minute drive from the campsite.

These are the gardens on the island next to the bridge. |
According to Wikipedia: London Bridge is a bridge in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. When it was built in the 1830s, it spanned the River Thames in London, England. In 1968, the bridge was purchased from the City of London by Robert P. McCulloch. McCulloch had exterior granite blocks from the original bridge cut and transported to the United States for use in the construction of a new bridge in Lake Havasu City, a planned community he established in 1964 on the shore of Lake Havasu. The Arizona bridge is a reinforced concrete structure clad in the original masonry of the 1830s bridge. The bridge was completed in 1971 (along with a canal), and links an island in the Colorado River with the main part of Lake Havasu City. The "rededication" of the London Bridge took place on October 10, 1971
Ray came back to eat, then returned for some night shots.

That concludes our adventure in Lake Havasu ... now back to Yuma to get the bed fixed or removed and the old platform put back.... we are not happy campers.
Great site on the beach! Too bad it was so windy. Sorry about your bed. Good luck with getting it resolved 🤞 Safe Travels!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful area! The tale of the bed sounds so frustrating. I hope it gets resolved one way or another to your satisfaction.
