Last week of June - June 25 - 30

Sunday, June 25, we decided to go fishing in the morning. Not an early start ... we headed out at 10 am lol. We trolled on the electric motor for about an hour. when it slowed right down. Ray turned the battery switch to 1 but unfortunately that is the good battery and we couldn't start the big motor. Fortunately we have the gas kicker to get us back to the dock. Seems everything needs replacing this year. No fish today!

To cheer us up we had lunch at Jake's, then stopped in at Lordco for replacement batteries. It's 5 years since we bought the boat, so I guess it's time for new batteries.

We've quite a bit of tubing in the Cowichan River now, as the level is down enough to be safe.

Monday ... a glorious morning. My flowers are loving the warm sunny days.

Amelia's first certificate with Gymnastics. Great going Amelia.

We went up and visited Jason and Amelia and took them to lunch for a celebration at her favourite restaurant, Driftwood Chinese Food. After she woke up from her nap it's playtime with Papa.

Fishing with Papa.

We stayed for dinner so we could see Kristi when she got off work. A great day. Papa and Amelia had ice cream for dessert.

Jason's new deck is awesome. Tuesday, Kat and Stella came to visit. It appears that the girls had a great time.

Amelia and Stella, those smiles say it all!

Ice Cream Party!

Tuesday we saw our neighbour come in to land with his helicopter. Pretty cool.

I made pizza with our gas pizza oven today for our lunch.

I noticed that our electrician was doing some work next door and Roy and June's. I asked him to install our fan timer in our ensuite that Ray had bought. Andrew said sure ... and it was done in 10 minutes. Bonus. Another small job off the list.

Wednesday before heading out for lunch, we pulled out our fridge to clean the water line. The water tastes a bit off ... I think because I forgot to turn off the water to the fridge over the winter. So today we unhooked it and sanitized it with vinegar for about 5 hours. That should fix it. The kitchen in a bit of mess for a few hours. lol

I also called Moen regarding my tap. The handle's set screw is stripped and won't tighten and sometimes the tap just comes on by itself. Not a good thing as you could have a flood. They are sending me a new handle. They seem great to deal with.

We met up with Ray's cousin Brian and wife Sandy for lunch at the Lion Rampant Pub in Maple Bay. What a gorgeous day.  First up, we did a bit of shopping. Look at this parrot just waiting for it's owner to come back. Quite the passenger! Ray picked up his wedding ring that had been repaired. He actually broke two little diamonds in half in his ring! He took mine in to have checked and I had a loose diamond as well so both my rings are in for servicing. Don't want to lose any diamonds.

The ocean water in front of the Lion Rampart is all a rusty colour. It's experiencing a huge red tide right now. While I waited for Brian and Sandy, Ray wandered around taking some pictures.

There are stripes of red through the whole channel.

Brian and Sandy arrived at noon. Great lunch.

Sandy and Brian

Back home we sat down at the dock for an hour or so before the wind chased us back up to the house.

Thursday, we wait for our new washer and dryer to be delivered by Home Depot. After having the water pump fixed in the washer a few weeks ago, I noticed that after I take the clothes out, sometime later there is often water in the bottom of the tub. The mechanism to fill must be leaking. Steve, our appliance guy, told me that if anything else goes wrong to just get new ones as it is not worth fixing 18 year old units ... so I ordered new ones. We took off the door to the laundry room and the countertop that sits over the units in preparation for the installation today.

The guys arrived at 12:30 pm for install. A bit tricky getting the dryer connected as it is a "hard" hookup, not a flexible hose. After I gave them a hand mirror and Ray's pickeruper, they managed. :) The new set looks great.

A bit cloudy today, quite a difference from the past few day,s but the sun broke out about noon. I decided to make a bacon wrapped pork loin on the Traeger with Peach and Whiskey Barbecue sauce. Since it's such a big hunk we invited Pat and Darryl over for dinner. Turned out to be their 49th anniversary, so perfect timing. Darryl made margaritas for our before dinner beverage. Yum. They headed back home at 8 pm as their company is arriving from Vancouver for the long-weekend. A great few hours.

Friday another sunny morning. Hard to believe this is the last day of June ... where did the month go? While in Duncan on Wednesday we stopped at Dean's Marine and ordered 2 new captain chairs for the boat. The old ones tip backwards so far that they are uncomfortable for any length of time. They were in today so Ray went into town and picked them up. We will be ready for our next fishing adventure.

Tomorrow Kristi and Amelia come!
