Lunch was next on the list after our adventure so we stopped at "Peggy Sue's 50's Dinner" just before getting into Barstow. What a hoot. It looked like a Laverne and Shirley place. An old remnant of the old Route 66, the road on the front of the diner and the I-5 runs behind the diner. Ray and I sat at the counter and had a wonderful lunch. We were too full so Ray asked for a piece of pie to go, peanut butter banana creme. Unfortunately for the waitress, to make room for some people passing by her, (the place was packed) she raised the pie plate up to the ceiling to pass by but unfortunately there was a beam above her and the pie stuck to the beam! After much laughing by all the staff and customers, the mess was cleaned up and she retrieved a new pie to cut a piece for Ray. Quite an adventure.
Pies, pies and more pies. |
While eating our lunch we decided to stay at the Stoddard OHV area for the night before deciding where we were going to spend the next 10 days before heading back to Canada. After checking the weather forecasts we finally decided to revisit our original plan and head for the coast at Ventura and see what happens. Ray and I sat outside for the rest of the afternoon. Nice that it was warm enough again to do that, the dog sure appreciated it.
That diner just screams burger, fries and a shake all topped off with a piece of pie!
ReplyDeletePeggy Sue's Diner looks really cool. Nice that you have the car and are able to check out the road ahead before taking your rig in! Too bad that one portion of road was so bad. Have fun on the coast...hope all goes well there!
ReplyDeleteWe ended up at Emma Woods State Beach in Ventura, right on the Pacific. A little tight campsites but what a view. Yesterday it was warm enough even with the breeze for shorts and tank top ... yeah.
