August Long Weekend at Kyle's Kottage

Monday was another sunny warm day. Drove into Duncan for some shopping and my pedicure. Once back home it was dock time. Only 1 painter, Gerald here again today. The front entrance way officially finished and we bought new led light fixtures to update it. Now the door needs to be refreshed. lol

Tuesday, we were on the road at 8am to take the motorhome in to have the toilet seal replaced as the part had come in. While that was being taken care of we went out for breakfast and then it was over to the Health Unit for my last rabies vaccination. Fortunately, while Ray was waiting for me, he received a call the the motorhome was ready so no extra trip into Duncan required today.

Back home by 11 am, Ray disappeared into his workshop while I did laundry. A good day for Gerald painting as it stayed rather cloudy for most of the day. Although cloudy it was quite warm so we sat out on the deck before dinner.

Wednesday, it showered a bit overnight. Ray and I were off to Nanaimo to meet up with Jason and Ray had an appointment. Of course a Costco run was in the cards. lol More painting crew to show up today. Gerald has not been painting the high places on the house so hopefully the other crew will continue with that work for the next couple of days. Unfortunately rain is in the forecast for Friday ...

Jason gave me my birthday present from Kristi and him. I had commented at Christmas that I loved his mom's Chef's coat so they got me one with my name embroidered on it. Thanks a bunch.

Picture from my mirror. lol
Thursday morning cloudy as expected. Hopefully the rain holds off so the painters can get a bunch done. We shall see. Organizing myself for a busy weekend with company on the top of my agenda today. :)

Only one painter, Gerry came and he left early at noon with the anticipation of rain for the afternoon I suspect. I spent the day making blueberry muffins and 2 blueberry pies for our expected company starting tomorrow. Lots of flour on my new jacket. :)

As of 5 pm the rain has not started here but the radar shows it will be soon. lol

Next door Darryl was processing his fish from his fishing trip with his friend Bruce. They did quite well at Nootka Sound at a lodge.

The rain finally started around 5:30 pm. I don't think we got too much in total here, it seemed mostly showers overnight. Apparently Catalyst Paper is starting to pump water out of the lake into the river starting August 17th. This could drop our lake by 20 inches. Won't bother us but other people's docks could be grounded.

I made up the pasta salad and the potato salad for Saturday's dinner. The tomatoes and peppers came from my container garden on my deck. I made up the "perfect bite" for Ray to check it out. lol It passed the test.

Martin and Suzanne arrived about 6:45 for dinner. I made tacos as we didn't know exactly when they would arrive after a days work and I did not want to fuss and worry about timing of cooking meat etc. lol We did have fresh blueberry pie for dessert though. Kristi and Jason arrived in time for dessert. Martin and Suzanne did all the dishes ... thanks guys.

The rest of the evening was spent sitting on the deck catching up.

Saturday morning sunny and warm right out the gate. Coffee and Carolan's on the deck at 6:30 am. with Martin. Suzanne joined us at 8 am. Kristi headed out for a kayak ride first thing.

Once everyone was up and had coffee, on the menu for breakfast was eggs benedict. Again the kitchen cleanup crew did all the dishes. Fabulous.

Suzanne's friend Jane, arrived around 11:30 am to spend the day/night with us. Most of the day was spent down on the dock as it was really warm out at 28C. I fired up the barbecue for lunch and grilled hamburgers.

Dock Time!

Suzanne still in her "jammies".

A really, really fast boat!

Around 4:30 we came up to the house and Jane and Martin made up an appetizer tray with Martin's smoked fish, oysters and chicken with crackers and cheese. A lovely snack.

By 5:30 I had the chickens on the rotisserie and we were waiting for Martin and Suzanne's son Ryan to arrive from Victoria. He had to work today so would be later arriving. As I had made the pasta salad and egg salad the day before dinner was a breeze for me. Again the kitchen crew did all the dishes. I could get used to this. lol

Back on the deck after dinner.  I went to bed around 9:30 and the rest of the crew stayed up talking until around 11 pm. Suzanne and Martin catching up with their son Ryan.

Sunday morning our guests stayed in bed a little longer while Ray and I sat outside on the deck. It was hot already at 6:30 am. Once everyone was up and had their fill of coffee it was pancake time with sausages and bacon. Ryan went for a swim first thing. Another gorgeous day.

Kitchen Crew
Once the kitchen crew finished all the dishes and said goodbye to Jane, the rest of us went down to the dock for an hour before the rest of them had to head out. Ryan, Martin and Jason were going golfing at Duncan Meadows for the afternoon and Suzanne was doing some shopping and then heading home to see her mom. Kristi Ray and I spent the rest of the afternoon on the dock in and out of the water.

Everyone was so helpful this weekend, including changing all their beds ready for the next batch of company. Thanks a million for all your help.

Monday morning another brilliant day. Mona and Andrew, our interior painters, arrived at 7:45 am and are going to paint our gazebo posts and fir doors today as well as the walls in one of our garage bays. There was previous water marks on the wall before gutters were installed and I wanted it cleaned up.

Kristi and Jason cleaned up their downstairs space including washing all the their sheets and towels in preparation for Garrett and Kat to come with their friends in 2 weeks. Thanks a bunch guys. On the road back home by 10:00 as they have a golf T-time for this afternoon.

That was our week. :)
