End of May already ... May 25th - 31st

Someone was excited to sit in mommy's chair with her chair. lol

Wednesday we arrived back home at noon with the sun shining. A quick run to the local pub for a quick lunch and then the unpacking started. Great it's 19C out and sunny. Everything in the yard looked ok and survived last weeks windstorm.

The next few days we emptied out the MH so it is ready to sit in the driveway for summer. Didn't want the canned goods etc to get overheated as it gets pretty hot in the front area of the house, if the sun ever comes out!

On Friday, in between rain showers, I decided to power wash the sundeck. The deck became so brown from all the pollen, and hopefully the sun will finally come out. Then we can get the rest of the deck furniture out. :)

Looks like we won't be seeing summer anytime soon. The weather forecast for the next two weeks is not very inspiring! We put out all the dock and deck furniture out anyways, then covered them up. :)

On Monday the big boat went to Nanaimo to finally get the tilt repaired under warranty. We've waited a year to get this done! Hard to get parts. After that, we will finally get it into the water so we can use it. Normally by now everyone's boats are the water and people are surfing behind the big boats. Not this year. The water is still freezing and no one's boats are in yet. The locals are commenting this is the worst May they can remember ever, so it's not just our impression.

We stopped at Jason and Kristi's first to have a visit before Amelia went down for her morning nap. Every time we see her, she does more new things. She pats the floor so you can sit with her and play. She also went and got a book to read with Grandpa. She can also climb onto the chair to sit at her table by herself now.

Such a happy baby. We played for an hour or so, then I fed her the bottle and put her to bed. Not one peep. I check the baby monitor and she was asleep before we left. Jason's on a phone appointment so we just waved by and off we went to Costco and Cabelas. After a quick shop, it was lunch at Nori Sushi. Another delicious meal. We waited 40 minutes for our food and their prices are up drastically compared to the sushi restaurant we visited in Courtenay.

Home by 1:30 and time to prep for dinner. Chicken drumsticks in the rotisserie basket on the barbecue with Caesar Salad and Peach Crumble for dessert.

Don't think we have to worry about a low lake level this year. The water is still at the "full" capacity at the end of May.

Ray's finally able to get the new fenders for the dock installed since the rain is holding off! Extra protection bringing the boat in, now that the breakwater is installed with the shorter turning radius :)

Last day of the month it's finally sunny and warm enough to sit outside in shorts and enjoy the 19C weather for a change. Other critters decided to enjoy it too. A snake curled up on top of the heather in the garden .... and at dusk we had a bat flying around inside the house! Took me about 10 minutes with the double patio doors fully open, to encourage it to go back outside. Thankfully no more came in! I am guessing it came in during the afternoon from the front door. They used to like to roost out there, but since Ray put in all the screening to prevent them getting into the peak above the door, we've not had a problem ... This one must've roosted there overnight below the screen and we did not notice it. When we left the front door open to sit outside on the driveway out of the wind, it must have decided to come inside to get away from us. I checked around everywhere else upstairs and could not see any evidence of any more bats ... no droppings etc.

Last February, Jason caulked every opening on the side of the house where we knew they managed to get into the house. It seems to have worked, as I have not seen any evidence on that side of the house. There are a few that managed to roost in the roof of the garage on the other side of the house judging by the droppings. Jason and Ray will have more work to do next December when we come back for Christmas from the USA. This sure has been a pain trying to get rid of them since we moved in 4 years ago. As they are a protected species, one must wait for them to leave every fall before dealing with any spots they get in. Eventually we should have every spot closed up I hope.

  1. What kind of wood do you have on your deck?

    1. It is actually porcelain tile made to look like wood planks. No replacing wood or staining for lifetime. :)
