As Ray'd put away everything outside the MH yesterday, and we only had to organize the inside, we were on the road shortly after 8 am. Once we fuelled up before hitting the I-10, it was 8:30 am. He planned our route to turn down the SR79 route from Beaumont. Mistake! We hit every red light from Hemet through to the I15. Lots of blue air in the coach. Not only that, we hit a "whoop de do" that bounced us pretty high. We noticed, once we arrived, that all of our clothes in the rear closet bounced off the coat rail. Everything's on the bottom of the closet and the sliding doors hardly opened!
Once onto I-15 and then over to the I-5, the drive turned better. It took 3 hours from Coachella to Mission Bay RV Park.
Once we reached our spot and plugged in the power, we went for lunch and finished setting up when we got back. Later we went for a walk on the bayshore pathway at the end of our road. Gorgeous.

Back on the Pacific Ocean |
I booked a "supersized site", which means we have a bit wider and longer site than other sites. Not bad for a parking lot. lol
|
Wet because 3 broken beer bottles needed washing. |
Today we decided to take the road around the peninsula before heading to Seaport Village, downtown San Diego. Noticed that the rear driver tire is low on air so Ray filled it up. This is the second time in a week, probably due to the bad roads around Palm Springs with all the patches that really hit your tires hard.
Out the door at 9am and our first stop is Pacific Beach where there are some surfers.
|
The building is the lifeguard station. See the piles of sand that washed up from the previous rainstorms. |
Pacific Beach Pier.
Lots of rentals on the pier, great for storm watching and warm summer days.
|
You can see the mist in the air from the waves. |
Back in the car to Mission Bay Basin.

Entrance to Mission Bay, this boat heading out. |
Views from Mission Basin from Mission Bay Point Park.
We left the Mission Bay area and headed downtown, about 10 minutes away. First stop is the City Lights Christmas Store. We visited this store in 2012 when we first started out full-timing. Ray wanted ideas for next years Christmas Village. Wow this store is huge.

Ray was gaga over their Christmas Village Displays. He said he could have spent mega money there but did get lots of ideas.
They also have a Halloween Display.
It was 11 am before we left this store so time to find a place to eat in nearby Seaport Village, along the harbour. We chose the Edgewater Grill. The food is delicious.

Cheers! |
Great view of the harbour and the aircraft carriers. One of them just arrived this morning from a 4 month deployment. You can also see the USS Midway museum.

After lunch we walked around the village. Lots of eateries and quite a few touristy stores and even though a Friday morning, quite a few people walking around.
Funny Sock Store
The blue building on the right is currently being refurbished for another restaurant. It's the most photographed building in the area.
Getting a validation sticker from the restaurant made our parking $5 instead of $16 for 2 hours. Bonus!
Next we drove a block away to Embarcadero Marine Park.
Time to head home. The rest of the afternoon we sat outside and enjoyed the warm weather.
Friday night's sunset.
Some people have really set up beside their units. The resort only lets you stay for 89 days and then you have empty you site to leave for one night before coming back. A lot of full-timers do this up until their summer season when you get charged a daily rate they leave until next fall.
Matt finished repointing the stones on the front of our house. Looks great.
Saturday morning we woke to clouds. Glad for the good day yesterday. First up is try out the hot tub. It wasn't as nice as Coachella Lakes but will do. The pool heater is broken, so we certainly won't be in that. lol
After showers etc. Ray headed out to get our rear tire fixed on the car. The air pressure is low again this morning. Turns out it picked up two nails and wasn't because of the Pal Springs potholes. Bonus, Budget Tire fixed flats for free as long it's not the sidewall. Once he got back, we went to Harper's Topiary Garden on the way to Little Italy. Just as we pulled up to view the garden, all of these people came to get their picture taken in front of it. Electric long boards, monocycles, and e-bikes. Ray actually took their group picture for them, there must have been 20 of them.
Ray spoke to the guy who maintains the garden for last 25 years. Gorgeous.

How many subjects can you pick out? |
The house next door is now slouch either with great foilage too.

See the canon? |
A short drive later we went to Little Italy. It's very hard to find a street parking space as it's Sunday and lunch time. We ended up in an underground lot that is quite expensive ($30 expensive)... oh well we didn't have far to walk.
We didn't see may stores just tons and tons of restaurants.
They even have trolley's coming through the one way road for tourists.

Beautiful planters. |

Not mine, but holy moly! |

Live music. |

Old little house mixed in. |
Monday and it's supposed to shower this afternoon so it will be a "stay at home" day other than maybe a little shopping. Still quite warm here with a high of 63F (17C) Tomorrow it is supposed to snow at home. :)
We are really enjoying your trip down our memory lane! 😘 Fran
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great spot you have near the ocean... fabulous walking/bike path! Crazy gardens! Wow! Little Italy looks very cool!
ReplyDeleteThat is quite the holiday store! We will never get to San Diego so it is interesting seeing it from your perspective.
