More exploring Palm Springs - Feb 4 - 7th

Sunday we woke to cloudy skies. We decided to head out to the Palm Springs Vintage Market that is held on the first Sunday of the month. This is held at the same place as the Farmer's Market we went to last weekend. Quite breezy today in advance of the rain storm coming our way tonight. This storm is forecast carry through until Tuesday. So a good day to get out and about before that. It's quite sunny and warm here compared to Coachella.

The amount of vendors are quite amazing. Most booths were very well curated. The majority of the people walking through were quite eclectic too. lol If you wanted to outfit yourself or your house with mid-century modern, this is the place to come. :)

We took a detour to a farm market we spotted on an earlier trip on the way back. Wow, Sunday must be the day to purchase your fresh veggies. The line-up went around the corner! They have the hugest cauliflowers and the first corn for the season. They also have huge artichokes and the field is right beside their market. We've not seen fresh artichokes since last years trip.

The line-up  went quite quickly as people filled their bags with what they wanted and then just waited to pay. As you can see the clouds are looking blacker.

I cooked up 2 of the artichokes for afternoon snack. Boy were they delicious. Being so fresh, theres' more "meat" in the leaves to eat.

Monday is quite cloudy and you can see it raining in the mountains west of us. Here in Coachella, we seem to be just out of range of the rain. A quiet inside day. The rains came overnight and continued until mid-morning.

Tuesday, tired of staying inside we went to the Indian Wells Golf Club and ate lunch at the Vue Bar and Grill. Beautiful venue and great lunch.

Next up, a small Costco shop before heading back to the coach. Funny that it rained in Indian Wells, while it's quite nice at the RV Park. We decided to go for a hot tub before relaxing the rest of the afternoon.

Wednesday, the sun is out. The new snow on the top of Mount Jacinto and Mount Gorginio is stunning.

This morning we decided to visit the Sunnyvale Center and Gardens in Palm Desert. What a peaceful place to walk around. It's free to walk the gardens.

Sunnylands emerged onto the world stage when the historic estate was completed in 1966. It has since welcomed eight U.S. presidents and world leaders, noted intellectuals, celebrities, and friends and family. On many occasions, guests have engaged in dialogue that led to efforts to enhance international understanding and civil discourse.

They give tours in extended golf carts to the mansion for a measly $55 each for 90 minutes .... no thank you. Here is a picture from Google. The mansion is in the middle of the golf course.

Walking the West Garden.

The ocotillo just starting to green up from all the rain.

Crested Saguaro

Big Agave

Cafe seating next to the reflection pond.

Next up was the East Garden and Lower Garden.

Lastly the Wildflower Garden which is so surprising with all the colour.

Snow capped Mt. Jacinto kept playing hide and seek from the clouds.

After an hour and a half of wandering around the gardens. it's time for lunch. We chose Joyce's Sushi a short distance away. Delicious. It looked like a "hole in the wall" kind of place in a strip mall until you walked in. Some of the best sushi and miso soup we've eaten, with very different choices. They even have a robot to deliver your dishes.

California roll with tempura squid.

Baked scallop sushi with prawns on top and freshwater eel sushi in the back.

Back to the RV. It's nice and sunny so we sat outside for an hour or so before the black clouds rolled in with the wind. Back inside. lol

  1. Great pictures of beautiful gardens! Nothing like veggies straight from the fields.
