Balboa Park, San Diego, Day 3 - March 14

 Day 3 at Balboa Park.

Ray woke up pretty sore so we were unsure if we're going back to the park today. After some Ibuprofen he was feeling ok, so we opted to go and only just see two museums, parking close by so not so many steps. Again, it's fairly cloudy so we won't be walking in any gardens.

First up, the Ford Building which houses the Air and Space Museum collection. Pretty cool. One of the docents latched onto us when we walked in and spent 20 minutes talking with Ray about specific exhibits. I thought of Steve Colibaba, he would've loved this. :)

Right on the flight path for San Diego International Airport.

In the atrium, the docent left us to continue on to the rest of the museum. First we walked into the space exhibit with various space capsules.

The original Apollo 9 capsule.

Inside the capsule.

I saw a young girl try this capsule seat out. Very tight. If I got in I wouldn't have got out. lol

Depicting Neil Armstrong, Apollo 11 landing on the moon.

Once through this section it's into the plane exhibit. They have tons hanging from the roof and on the ground. They have beautiful murals in a lot of the displays.

Hard to take really good pictures as they have so many lights shining on the exhibits.

A cub plane. They show one of these in the Mountain Man show.

After an hour of wandering around we walked next door to the Automobile Museum, small but mighty.

We drove the car to Inspiration Point where the  parking for the Veteran's Memorial Museum is and caught the tram back to the main plaza to have lunch. Today we decided on Artifact at the Mengei Museum. Flavours from around the world. It's good but not as good as our lunch at El Prado.

You can choose to eat inside or outside on their patio which is what we chose today.

We caught the tram out fron of the restaurant back to Inspiration Point. Ray's pretty sore and the clouds came in so the sky's pretty grey. We called it a day.

Home at 2  pm and by 2:30 Ray decided to have a nap. The clouds continued to darken and the wind came up with the odd drop of rain, so coming home was the right decision. Ray went for a hot tub after waking up and is feeling much better. Great. I spent the remainder of the afternoon prepping and making dinner. Using up vegetables so Shepherds Pie's on the menu.

  1. I chucked at your comment about Steve Colibaba loving that museum, when we visited the same museum in 2019 I think he was the first to comment "my kind of place"!
