Tuesday and it's totally sunny outside, a beautiful day. A stay at home day other than it's time for a pedicure. Ray drove into town to pick up some caulking for the MH while I baked bread. The rest of the afternoon is "toes up" outside.
Wednesday we woke to Pacific Marine Layer .... high cloud that prevents the sun from coming through. It finally burned off by 9:30 a.m. Today we started out with a hot tub when the pool opened at 8 am. A nice way to "lubricate" our old joints. With it being a "stay at home day", I made a big breakfast of waffles and fresh strawberries. Ray says YUM!
Outside we noticed that our e-bikes were no longer chained to the picnic table!!!!! Yup some homeless F****ers stole them. Unbelieveable. Hopefully we can claim them on our house insurance. Still waiting for a call back. There goes $5000 if not.
Thursday and Friday we worked on getting some stuff done, caulking the outside of the rig and a bunch of laundry in preparation for us leaving Saturday morning.
We've made a HUGE decision for a change of lifestyle. Last spring we knew the MH needed some love. The year before we'd bought all new gel batteries and new tires, but it needed to have a leak fixed and all new awning toppers and awning. We decided to spend $50,000 plus on repairs to the motorhome of the past 18 months and planned for another 10 years of touring. And now that everything is fixed, we've decided to sell it. We've enjoyed it for the past 11 years, but with Ray's back, he's finding it much harder to keep up with everyday maintenace, washing, levelling, camp set up etc. As we're moving every few days to a week, it's a lot more work this trip, especially the first 3 months. We are looking forward to some fly/driving trips once both his knees are done.
FOR SALE |
When we get home, it will be a mad scramble to empty, clean and put it up for sale all before Ray's knee surgery, May 8th. First though, we have to get his "boo boo" fixed on the rear corner, passenger side when he had a disagreement with a steel post just before boarding the ferry to go south in September.
Saturday it's jacks up by 8:00 am and on the road at 8:22 am. With us taking care of most of the packup yesterday, it went very smoothly this morning. Today's destination is River Run RV Park in Bakersfield, a 4.5 hour drive. It showered off and on, especially coming down the grapevine.
Yup heading north .... look how black the sky is.
We arrived by 1:30, plugged in and headed out for lunch. Ray told me to check out Diner's Drive-in's and Dives locations. The 24th Street Cafe came up and off we went. Their food is delicious. We both had their "Famous Rueben Sandwich" which they showcased with Guy Fieri. That was our lunch and dinner :) They're known for their huge breakfasts as well.
Back at camp for 2:30 and finished setting up. The Kern River behind us actually has water flowing in it for the first time we've been here.
This is our third time stopping here on the way home. They have a pool and a hot tub. Unfortunately the clouds came in and it started to sprinkle so we decided not to have a hot tub. Spring seems behind here this year. We are later coming home and there is not any blossoms on the fruit trees yet. Upside ... no bees smashing into the window yet either. lol
We had a quiet night, I slept well but Ray did not. The plan for today was to drive the 1.5 hours to Harris Ranch and try their BBQ meats. We changed our minds and pushed all the way to Sacremento, arriving a day early at the Cal-Expo RV Park. Not much for amenities. but a good place to be near all the things Ray has on his list. The biggest positive is this is a really quiet park.
After leaving at 8:20, stopping to get fuel on the way twice, we arrived at 1:30 pm. (We needed fuel and the only place near that we could fit in was $6.19 per gallon, so we only put in $100 and carried on further up the highway until we saw a spot that was $4.59 per gallon!) During the 5 hour drive we encountered several rain showers. Traffic for the most part was ok, being a Sunday. There were some slowdowns through construction areas due to lane closures but otherwise a smooth drive.
After just plugging in, we were off for lunch/dinner. There's a Rock & Brew Restaurant on the grounds of the exposition. Lots of beer on tap, great old time rock videos on multiple TV's as well as sports. The place is huge. Outside there's batting cages and a huge mini golf course. Quite the place for family birthday's.
We both ordered their Gastropub burger. OMG unhinge your jaw to eat. Delicious.
Boy do I need a haircut when I get home ... It's been almost 3 months! |
After waddling out with very full tummies we went back to finish setting up for our 6 day stay.
Well, that was an action-packed post! That really sucks about the e-bikes, Did you report it to the police? I doubt they would even do anything with the amount of other crime in that area. The big news though is that you are selling your rig!!!! I don't know if I should be excited or sad. You have had many great trips and memories in it over the years. Now, it is time for a new chapter!
ReplyDeleteWe did report to the police and received a claim number for our insurance. We probably won't get much $$$ for it unfortunately. Ray and I have really enjoyed the years we have had in the motorhome, but now are excited to travel to other places via plane, train, ship and automoble. lol
DeleteThat really sucks about your e-bikes! Congrats on your lifestyle, a big decision for you. Good luck selling the motorhome. Enjoy touring Sacramento!
ReplyDeleteThanks, hopefully Buster sells soon for you as well.
DeleteSo curious what price you're looking to get for it! Keep me posted! 😉
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhh that is such sad news. We love you both and love our get togethers! Now we will just have to come and visit! Michael and Grace
