October 9th - On our Way
Thursday morning, October 8th, we were on the road by
8:30am. Crossed the border by 9am with no problems and were on our way to start
our winter trip. Yeah! Arrived at Judy and Milt's by 1:30 after stopping at
Costco to load up on some booze. The motorhome is a breeze to set up in their
driveway. A great visit and Judy took me to Walmart to get the other necessary
things and then it was off to our favorite pub on the water at Gig Harbor. We were pretty tired so said
adieu and climbed into the coach for the night.
It a turned out to be a noisy sleep though as the traffic on the road beside us was pretty noisy and the fog came in at 12:30 am and the fog horn from the Tacoma Bridge kept blowing every 15 seconds or so. Oh well the visit is always worth it. Ray sure enjoys having a sister!
Friday morning we were back on the road by 7:30 am heading for Rufus and hoping to avoid the Portland traffic. Stopped at 2 rest areas on the way for Ray and Freya to stretch their legs and arrived by noon at Rufus. A very lovely afternoon sitting in the sun/shade with temps at 77degrees.
Saturday morning, we stopped in Pendleton to get Ray's new smartphone and I did my last
minute shopping at the Walmart. It was again, an hour and a half for Ray to get
set up. Oh well it is done now and we
even have 12 G of data. We drove through to a boondocking spot I found just
before Ontario, Oregon along the Snake River. It was a great view, quiet, but
not very good cell coverage. The biggest ding was all of the goathead on the
ground which made walking Freya a little difficult. We were able to sit down by
the river in the sand so she was pretty happy after being cooped up for the 6
hours today travelling. Beautifully picturesque area as you can see below!
We were off Sunday by 9am (time change so really 8am) and set off for Jerome. We
expected to stay at the Jerome Fairgounds, but my or my ... the surrounding
area is a stinky feedlot. The fairground directions are the
fairgrounds are right behind Stinky's Gas Station. Well named I think. So we
stopped at the next rest area but there was no room to stay overnight so we
pushed on to the next one which happened to be the last one before crossing
into Utah just east of Burley, ID. This one is great for the dog with acres of large Juniper trees, and although noisy with all of the
truckers it is quite enjoyable. We only opened 2 slides though. My frozen
meals keep us well fed on our travels so far. This time though, I bought a
huge roasted chicken from Walmart for dinner.
