More progress and Kristi comes for the weekend

Friday, another glorious day. Very busy here at Kyle's Kottage. Two electricians are here to hang our new dining room light fixture, but first the existing blade fan had to be removed. (This house did not have any dining room light fixture.) Who would have thought that it would take one guy (Nick) almost all day for that! Unfortunately once the fan was removed, they discovered there wasn't an electrical box installed. The other guy, Adam, spent his time running all the wire for our 50 amp plug for the motorhome and putting in the wiring for extra lights in the garage.

The dining room light fixture did not come with any chain, only wire, so off to Duncan I went to Home Depot to pick up some so no one was just sitting around waiting. I was not expecting this as this fixture was special ordered from McLaren's with the wire lengthened at the factory so why no chain ???? While I was gone, Adam drove back to Duncan to pick up the plug for the 50 amp and new light fixtures for the garage. Nick stayed behind and assembled the upstairs fan for Garrett's room and the light fixture for the living room. Both of these lights were unable to be installed today with the difficulties taking down the fan in the dining room. This dining room fan is to be reinstalled in the foyer above the front door to help move the hot air from the loft area and again, there will have to be wire run and an electrical box installed.

Now that's a ladder Nick!

And Voila!  It does look much better at night though.

In the end the electrical work was not completed ... the only item finished was the dining room light. Another guy will be back on Tuesday to finish.

While I was supervising them doing their thing, we also had Price Alarm here for the day to install another security camera over the front door so the whole driveway will be covered now with 2 cameras instead of only partly with the one previously installed. (We did this because the day after the system was installed a few weeks ago someone came into the yard and stole the top off our concrete Chinese Pagoda and the camera did not "see" the thief"!

Will installing the camera.
Ray was outside on the deck supervising Will and Clay building the stairs to the beach. I was at Home Hardware at 8:15, bright and early to pick up redi-mix concrete as they had used up all that I had previously purchased.

They managed to get it half done by the end of the day so we had to barricade it off for the rest of the weekend to let the cement dry.

All the trades left at 4pm. Ray and I finally were able to relax and take a swim down at the dock as it was pretty warm at 31C. before Kristi showed up with her 2 dogs for the weekend. I was way too tired today to think about cooking but Kristi had brought her "Chef's Plate" so she cooked us dinner. Thanks a bunch sweetie.

After dinner, Kristi and I sat out on the porch as she had brought stuff to give ourselves a pedicure. Ray retired as his back was pretty sore after bouncing up and down all day checking out the contractor's work. But before that, Kristi's dogs got the brushing to help with their hair loss all over Grandma's floor. lol

Saturday, another sunny hot day. After breakfast and before the wind came up, we all went for a boat ride. Kristi managed to pass her test for the Safe Boating Operator's Card the day before so she was captain for the trip. She piloted the boat fabulously.

We only went down the lake as far as Honeymoon Bay as the wind started up and we did not want it to be too bumpy for Ray's back.

A lovely boat ride. Once back at the house and the dogs walked, it was time to go for lunch at J & V's Burger and Pizza, a very cute diner in Lake Cowichan, Ray ate there before, as had Kristi a year or so ago with Jason. Very cute and eclectic. They even have a caboose you can eat in. With the hot weather the outside of their building has misters going to help with the heat . Inside had great A/C so very nice. They were extremely busy so it was a bit of a wait for our food but we had snagged a booth inside so did not mind the wait.  Good burgers and milkshakes.

Darn bug bites!

Once back, we headed down to the dock and back into the lake for a couple of hours. Kristi and I with our floaty's and Ray just jumped in periodically to cool off. Another hot 30 C day with lots of activity on the lake. At 3pm all of us went inside for a siesta. Kristi was down a few pints of sleep after being on call, I needed to rest my neck and Ray needed to rest his back. After dinner Kristi and I went back on the deck while Ray watched TV in our bedroom. Another fabulous day at Kyle's Cottage.

Sunday, sunny and warm again. Both Ray and I slept in a little to 6:15 am this morning. The temps overnight outside only went down to 15C so pretty hot for anyone without A/C Ray headed down ato our dock at 7:15 to practice his guitar. Kristi still sleeping.

  1. It sure has been hot everywhere. The humidity in the east sure makes it feel much hotter. You guys will be so happy when all the work is complete and you can just relax and enjoy your little piece of paradise.
