Tuesday overnight our flood alarm kept beeping with a low battery. Of course that kept Freya up all night which in turn kept us waking up. After changing the battery it still had the problem. I was on the phone with Telus, formally Price Alarms, on and off all day Wednesday to get this solved. Eventually we were just able to bypass it for now so it quit squawking and tomorrow will continue to source a solution for us. We probably will have to have a technician come out.
The morning was spent with Ray putting together our new fire pump and I puttered with washing bathrooms and the floors in the motorhome. Now it is ready to pack for our adventure next week.
Before going down to the dock for the afternoon I checked the motorhome. Wow it was 103F in the cabin, the hottest it has ever been for us so on came the heat pumps. We will put in the reflectix tomorrow to help with the heat. It was 34C/93F outside today and getting even hotter tomorrow. So glad for A/C in the house. Came up from the dock about 4:30 pm. we'd enough of the warm wind.
Experienced an interesting night lol. A little green frog showed up in my planters in the front this spring, and then sometime earlier this summer he has moved to under the sundeck tiles. Maybe because of the micro irrigation for my planters keeps it moist and cool under there. Three times when I have opened the BBQ lid to turn it on he jumped out. Senor Frog jumped all the way down to the concrete once and twice I chucked him onto the lawn. He is coming on the deck to join the "other frogs". lol We purchased this metal art sign down south at Quartzsite, AZ now hanging on the wall on our sundeck. Our motto "NO BAD DAYS".
Well sometime yesterday, Senor Frog must have come in the house when the door was open for Freya. Ray heard him croak in our bedroom about 7:30pm. After a search we did not find him. I came to bed and lights out at 9:30. Just as I was asleep at about 9:55 the damn thing jumped onto my neck and I felt his cold toes. Yuck! Up we get, flashlights out and after about 5 minutes we finally found him and I chucked him back out onto the lawn. Of course the rest of the night I did not sleep very well, expecting something else to land on me as I had a spider land on me on the dock this afternoon too and expecting the alarm to beep again. :)
Thursday morning I was glad to just wake up and get out of bed and hope for a better day. Another hot one predicted. Already 20C outside at 6:30 am. Unfortunately the alarm started beeping again ... Yeesh!
Poor Freya took off this morning and we could not find her for 15 minutes... she was hiding over at Pat's as she could not stand the beeps. Back on the phone with Price/Telus ... we were sent instructions on how to disconnect the power to the system and there is someone coming between 1:30 to 3:30 to fix it. Thank goodness. So for now the beeping is stopped and we have Freya in the house as she took off a second time this morning and I had to look for her again over at Pat's.
Ray finished assembling the fire pump. Looks pretty substantial. After we get some oil and fuel in it we will take if for a test drive. lol
The BC Smoke Forecast is not in our favour. The prevailing winds are driving a blast of smoke across the lower end of Vancouver Island for the next few days. Yuck. It was here and we could smell it at 11 am this morning.
Price/Telus Alarms did arrive at 1:30 to fix our system and all he had to do was power it up again and it seems to be OK!!!! Well now at least, I know what to do if we have a similar situation. They are going to order a new flood alarm sensor though and keep it at the Duncan office in case it quits working again.
The smoke dissipated somewhat, so we were able to sit down at the dock for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Had to jump in the water every 30 minutes or so as even the wind was hot with it being 38C. Wow. I even had to dump water on top of Freya on the dock as it was too hot for her to walk up the ramp and then down to the beach. Way too much effort for her these days, especially in the heat.
Watched our neighbours mom, give their "bull" a bit of a ride. lol She managed to actually get up and stay on for about 2 seconds. :) Way too funny.
Friday after my haircut, we headed out to Duncan for lunch and some shopping. My hair stylist suggested we try out The Oak Taphouse as it had been bought out by the Craig street Pub and Red Arrow Brewing Company, who also own our Jake's at the Lake. They remodeled it and were finally able to open this past March even though they purchased it in 2020. Turned out to be a great choice. They have a brand new outside patio that is very pleasant. The food was excellent too. I'd noticed driving by this pub earlier this spring that they just had a large party tent in their parking lot for use for outdoor dining while we were in restrictions. This sure is a much better option. They even have 2 corn hole games for patrons on the grass. For the winter, they do have a covered patio with heaters at the back of the pub too.

After some shopping we were back home by 3 pm. Poor Freya, we received a notification the flood alarm is beeping again while out. I called them and had them take it permanently off-line until they get a new sensor which will be August 31st. With the heavy smoke outside, we decided to stay inside in the A/C for the rest of the afternoon.
Saturday still warm outside at about 18C. The kids are coming for a visit today. Yeah, Amelia time.
Kristi, Jason and Amelia as well as my grand puppies, came to visit at about 10:30 am for a few hours between naps. lol It is just warm enough to sit up on the sundeck and enjoy the day for their visit. Of course I provided scones for breakfast and homemade mac and cheese for lunch. Sure was nice seeing them.
I had my time with her too although no pictures. :)
When Amelia was tired of being held we moved her playpen onto the deck. She can sit up by herself for limited amounts of time now.
Oh oh ... starting to list. |
Tomorrow we are off to Victoria for Ray's eye surgery. Malc and Kathy will be at the house to look after Freya for us. We were going to take her to Victoria, but she is moving so slow the thought of getting her down from our room to some "green space" seemed a monumental task for her.
Hope Ray's eye surgery went well. I haven't been able to follow my usual blogs since I left on my trip but I have everything under control here now so I expect to be back to my normal routine.
ReplyDeleteYes his eye surgery was successful but certainly a lot of bruising. We are a week into it and he still has no white showing around his eye.
DeleteThat is one determined frog Deb. Maybe when he joined you in bed you should have given him a kiss…might have been your “other” Prince…🤣
