Sunday morning we woke to really cloudy skies. No morning pictures for Ray today. We decided to stay home and get some chores done. Warmer morning today with the cloud cover at 48F. A good rest up day for both our backs.
Monday, we could see that the skies were clear again. Out the door we went at 7:45 am, headed to the Paint Mines some 30 miles northeast from here. We arrived at 8:30 and walked for nearly 2 hours around all the formations. The whole time we saw lots of rabbits and only 3 other people. Between Ray and I we must have taken 150 pictures. :)
The rocks at the Paint Mines are interlayered shale and clay with embedded selenite (gypsum) and jasper, heavily stained by iron oxide and topped by a more resistant layer of cross-bedded sandstone, which forms the white caprocks on some of the hoodoos.
Another amazing spot! Incredible rock formations and colours!
