Dinosaur National Monument, Central.
Today's adventure (Wednesday) will be to drive down to the town of Dinosaur in Colorado and take the Harpers Corner Drive. Should take us about 4 hours or so. Lots of viewpoints to see. First though, Ray headed out at 8:15 am to get some shots of a hillside he watched for the sun to be "just right". lol
The Green River that flows beside our campsite. |
After showers, dishes and packing a lunch, we hit the road at 9:30 heading for Harper's Corner Road you get to through the east entrance of the Monument from the little town of Dinosaur, Colorado.
A lovely windy road, gaining altitude until you reach the top of Blue Mountain. The road is paved and is 31 miles one way.
First overlook is Bull Canyon Rim Trail looking northwest.Canyon Overlook looking Northeast:
Island Park Overlook, looking Northwest. The road hugs the top of the ridge of the Blue Mountain. Lots of range cows everywhere to watch out for.
Echo Park Overlook, looking Northeast.
Nice clean car. lol |
Harper's Corner looking Northwest at the end of the road where ate lunch.
Back down the road, almost to the bottom we realized we had missed one of the viewpoints on the way up, Plug Hat Butte.
Another glorious day. Back at camp by 1:30 to finally relax for a bit. Back on the road tomorrow to the Colorado National Monument.
So many amazing areas! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt sure was. Glad we decided to do this drive.
