Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad - Oct 15 - 18th

Today we left Cortez at 9:15 am and with such a long drive .... 45 minutes ahead of us.lol We're staying at the HTR Campground about 15 minutes west of Durango. This is the only campground open at this time of year and we needed a place to leave the coach for our two day train ride tomorrow. We only have power, the water and sewer are shut down for the season. We made sure the water tank is full and all grey and black were empty before arriving here.

The fall colours on the way are stunning going East on Hwy 160. Ray stopped part way here to snap a couple of pictures.

Our campsite at HTR Campsite, Durango, CO

Once set up, we headed out for lunch, both of us starving. Ray decided on Animas Brewing Co. I ordered the best Kolch Beer ever ... and they served Irish style pasties and great burgers (50% chuck, 50% homemade brisket).

With bellies full, we walked across the pedestrian bridge crossing the Animas River. Beautiful with the fall colours. Ray hopes to get a picture of the train crossing here too, probably Wednesday the day after our trip.|

Then it's time to go to Home Depot and pick up another "spare" 300 amp fuse I ordered. lol Then onto the Durango Train Station. We needed to get our tickets for tomorrow morning, as we need to be at the station at 6:30 am!!! Get our luggage loaded and the train is supposed to leave at 7 am, at daylight. There's a most amazing museum and of course, Ray took tons of pictures ... over 100. This is just a very small taste.

The roundhouse in front of the building.

They have a huge model train display.

Like the Galloping Goose train we saw at the Delores Museum, only small.

Tomorrow we are on this train!
