Saint George, Utah, Sept 30 to Oct 6th Part 4 New Satelitte System, and some more touring.

Today, Wednesday, we took a "down day". Ray is pretty sore from all the walking around he did yesterday. After a lazy beginning to our day, I made a big breakfast for us, first one since we left. I sure haven't been cooking very much so far this trip.

After breakfast we headed out to Smith's groceries, about 5 minutes away, and received our flu shots. Not cheap for us down here at $80 per person. We cannot get a Covid Vaccination here, as it now goes through their medicare and since we are not US citizens, we can't it. Oh well we were vaccinated the beginning of April when we got back last spring and will get another booster in December when we are home.

On the way back home, Ray took me to the gardens in the Town's Square Park, where the sculptures are beside the Children's Museum. Gorgeous area with lots of water features. Amelia would love that splash pad.

Huge guitar!
Definitely a recycled piece of art

Once we got back to the coach, other than doing my dishes and making bread, a pretty relaxing morning. Ray headed out for a hot tub, but couldn't stay in too long as it's too hot for the current 21C/72F outside temperature.

In the afternoon, Fred, from Southern Utah TV and Satelitte came to install a proper DISH system on our roof. He actually is the same guy who installed our original DISH satellite of our traveler four years ago. After $3550 USD later, we have the TV we used to have. Everything works as soon as you turn it on instead of restarting the system everytime.

Fred showed Ray the King One Pro was installed poorly, no caulking other than on top of the 4 little screws holding the whole thing down. He said it would have eventually just flown off the roof. Ray took pictures of everything and called BMT and spoke with Lisa at the front desk. She forwarded Ray's concerns to Fraser, one of the owners, and he called Ray back around 7 pm.

Ray told Fraser again, that our original dish and traveler system was taken away and this one installed without our prermission. This install was not anywhere near the "dip" in the roof that we were told caused the leak. Fraser asked us where our old system was and Ray told him we never got it back. Ray also told him that we had to purchase new receivers as our current ones would not work with the King Pro for $450 too. So we are in this situation for $5000 USD ($7000 CAD) including the cost of the King Pro and installation.

After a very amicable conversation, Fraser has asked Ray to take a bunch of pictures and apparently he will be giving us some retribution.  He also said we were not the only client to have complaints about work done incorrectly recently. I suspect this all had to do with Josh, the old manager, who directed the work that has since been let go.

Thursday morning we headed out shortly after 9 am. I've always wanted to see the Virgin River BLM Camping spot in the Virgin River Gorge, 20 miles south of us in Arizona. Our friends Steve and Dianne stayed there a few times. What a great spot. Room for any size rig at $8 per night.

Great views from the campsites.

With all the rain they've had, there are flowers blooming everywhere.

Back in the car and heading towards the Kayenta Art Village by Snow Canyon. What a bunch of great artwork, pottery, jewelry and paintings/pictures. If only we 'd room in the motorhome and at home. lol.

I will take this one for my garden at home lol

Multi-medium art piece

The framing on this one made it look like a slice of rock was taken from a rock face. Amazing.

Ray took a very similar shot of the Bryce Amphitheatre

We left empty handed, darn, but stopped for lunch at the facility cafe. Delicious food and reasonably priced. We've enough left over of our burgers for dinner. :)

This Uinta Hoodoo Golden Ale is an excellent beer.

After lunch we drove down to the Desert Labyrinth, a 1/2 block away.

It's so big Ray couldn't fit it all into his picture.

The last stop on Ray's list is the Tuacahn Centre for the Performing Arts. What a backdrop for live stage events.

The stairs going up to the plaza showing the upcoming events.

I guess they only turn the water on coming down the stairs when an event is on.

They are currently playing the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The guy below is using a firehose to clean all the seats.

Another great day touring here in St. George. Back home for 2:30 pm.29.4C/ 85F outside and too hot to sit without any breeze today.  So inside we are, me with a margarita and Ray having his N/A Corona . :)

Friday, our last day here and a "chore day", for me, laundry, floors, bathrooms etc. Also made the filling for beef pot pies that I will put together tomorrow for dinner.

We started off the morning with our usual coffee and computers before heading out to the hot tub at 8 am, before it gets too hot outside. Certainly helped Ray's back as he's quite sore when he woke up. My foot is finally at 100% and feels great.

After tracking our new 300 amp fuse, it's arrived at Home Depot as promised, so we have a backup. Ray picked it up as well a few other things like DEF for MH and some groceries for me. Of course first he went to do some more exploring for pictures. lol  Apparently Snow Canyon is on the docit today.

First up Jenny's Canyon Trail.

Notice the arch through the middle of the picture?

Next up the Hidden Pinyon Trail, well the very first part anyway.

Lastly the first part of the Butterfly Trail looking towards the White Mountains and then hiked around to the Petrified Dunes. A very busy boy this morning.

And now the Petrified Dunes part.

After his tour, he did my shopping and was back home about 12:30 pm. Considering he was supposed to "take it easy" today .... he had fun though.

Tomorrow onto Mystic Hotsprings.

  2. Such great hiking in that area! We have been there a few times and have not even scratched the surface. The recycled art is very interesting, one really had to stop and really examine it to appreciate it.

    1. We just love the colours of the rocks. There is a lot of green this year to make it even brighter in contrast. They have had 15 inches of rain so far this year instead of their 6 inches.

  3. Just curious to know if you ever considered installing Starlink and streaming your entertainment (and Internet) as opposed to the very expensive and somewhat limited DISH TV system? We have a similarly expensive Sat TV dish and DISH receivers on our boat, but since we installed Starlink we cancelled our DISH account and haven’t used the Sat TV at all. We do have subscriptions to several streaming services, but we use those those at home as well.

    1. We have considered Star Link but they you are streaming everything and you also get commercials. We like to dvr our stuff and watch at our leisure and fast forward through the commercials. Some of the shows the Hopper actually lets you get rid of them altogether. We only have Netflix at home for streaming the odd thing. For internet we use the data on our phones.
