A needed break from Reno's

Sunday it was only 1C outside ... Brrrrrr. The fog rolled in again as the water and the air temps are quite different at present. I expect it to burn off though by 9 am or so. Ray was going to take some morning fall pictures but with the fog we shall see.

Off we drove at 9am to Skutz Falls to get some pictures and give Freya a bit of a walk. The fall colours are spectacular. Stopped to take a picture of the road in.

Skutz Falls Road
These pictures show the fish ladders. When we were here earlier this summer, there was hardly any water and nothing going through the ladders. Today there is quite a bit more volume and the water is now flowing through the ladders in preparation for the salmon to come up and spawn further upstream.

Very spooky picture taken with my cell phone.

Once back in the car we decided to head back to town stopping first at the Trans Canada Trail that intersects Mayo Road for a short walk.

Driving up the road we noticed a beautiful old farmhouse that looks well maintained.

We noticed a sign at the Riverside Hotel, breakfast for $4.99 on the way out of Lake Cowichan. Ray and I had not gone to the Pub there, as we heard the clientele is a "bit rough".. This being a Sunday morning we did not think it would be a problem. What a great breakfast for $4.99 each and look at our view of the Cowichan River.

Our breakfast view. In the summer the river here is packed with people tubing.
After breakfast we took a short walk around the property with Freya. Ray managed to get some more great pictures.

One of Ray's new favourite pictures.

We walked down to the hotel's dock and saw a bunch of trout swimming around the dock. Too bad Jason did not fish here yesterday. lol I managed to get a quick picture with my phone. There must have been at least 10 of them swimming around and then hiding under the dock.

Back home by 11 am. Waiting for the temps to come up, then we had another campfire. Need to enjoy these sunny fall days while we still have them. My neighbour Pat and her Mom came over for a short visit, enjoying the sunshine and fire.
