Exploring Flagstaff - Part 1

Friday morning we woke up to a very chilly morning at 30F. We were all snug and warm inside. Hard to believe Ray and I slept nearly 10 hours, after being woken up many times by the wind the night before. Even Freya slept through the night. Today will be chore day ... laundry etc. as we wait for Lee to come back and change out the water pump. We unhooked the water hose last night so it would not freeze.  Ra will hook it back up so I can do the laundry with city water, even though the overfill is leaking on the ground.

Lee showed up around 11 am and replaced the water pump. This morning, the park's power was shut off for a few hours, so I was able to test out the inverter system and run the generator. Everything seems to be working like it should. And when the power came back on everything still ran fine.

Once the water pump was tested. he started looking at our door awning. The motor is hooped. He is going to try to get us another one before we leave next Friday from Carefree in Colorado. He also sold us a spare 300 amp fuse for the future and an extra water pump. Unfortunately, after he left, all the water pump issues came back. So it is the valve as we suspected.

IRV2

Before you go to the trouble of replacing the valve, here's something you can try that worked on our Allegro RED. Remove the valve handle and file about 1/8" from the stop area on the handle allowing it to close further. I did that with our RED and it stopped the filling.

My water tank was filling and overflowing when the valve was in the city position. As a quick fix I added a valve (on/off) from HD in series with the water line going to the tank. Easy to do with out removing the panel. When I'm on city water the valve is closed. When I need water in the tank I open it and switch the fill valve to tank fill. It works great I going leave it that way. I hope this helps..... Chuck

Ray is going to try to file the lever a bit as was suggested on IRV2 first, otherwise Lee will have to come back.  Unlike the internet above, the panel doesn't allow access to the tank fill line.  Changing out the ball valve is quite difficult to get to, as it to is behind the panel. When you take it off, you only have 4" of play and no one wants to touch that! Update to come.

Once Lee was done, we decided to try out one of the local breweries for lunch. There are at least 6 more!

Historic Barrel+Bottle House - Flagstaff offers two spaces under one roof. Our cocktail space features 8 specialty taps, a full liquor bar, specialty cocktails, arcade games and more. While the other side of our downtown location offers 20 beers on tap. Both feature an array of crowlers, 16oz cans and 12oz cans to go, wine from our sister company Grand Canyon Wine Co., and delicious elevated pub fare. You're sure to find something to enjoy while out with friends and plenty to take home for later. We are dog friendly on our patio year round.

Shortly after, the place filled up as it is Friday afternoon and most seemed to be university students. The beer is good and although there's a limited menu, the food is also good. Not the best seating options for Ray though.

Back to the coach for more laundry. lol

I booked the train from Williams to Grand Canyon on Monday. Ray and I love train rides. Freya should be fine in the MH while we are gone. Internet searches of the things to do in Flagstaff are all in places away from here. Most we have already seen, so I guess we will do a craft brewery tour over several days. :)

Saturday a balmy 24F at 4 am but warmed up to 30F for Freya's walk.  Today we will buy Ray a warmer coat. lol  He left all of his at home and the light ones we bought at Walmart in Washington just does not handle 25F temps.

First up this morning Ray did the filing of the lever for the city water/tank fill and ..... IT WORKED! No more run off onto the ground and the water pump is not constantly running when turned on. Thank you IRV2. Back to my laundry.

While I did some scrubbing of my kitchen counters ... very dirty after 2 dust storms and deposits of dirt over the summer. (Couldn't get to it before we left as I was so sick with my cold/flu.) Ray did a few other tasks that had been piling up. At the end of our stay here all of our "pain in the butt" problems should be solved for the rest of the winter. :)

Once the DishTV guy came and left, Still don't know why it takes so long for our receiver to recognize all the channels we are supposed to have ... Ray and I headed into town to try out another Brewery for lunch. Beaver Street Brewing. They have a great lager and wonderful wood fired pizza.

Lots of IPA's on this list.  We're starting to find the beers with IBU's 25 and under are hard to find.

They had a great patio area outside.

Three Sausage and Caramelized Onion Pizza ... Yumm
After our late lunch, we saw that there was a farmer's market so we found a parking spot and walked around. Unfortunately it was after 2 pm and the vendors were all packing up. We later found out this is an artisan market.  On Sunday they have the farmer's market.A cursory glance showed that there was not much we would have been interested in anyways. lol

The Downtown Historic District here in Flagstaff has really interesting buildings. Ray  and I will have to take walk through another day. It is definitely a University Town with lots of young adults working as servers and many more as patrons. Not too many of us "grey hairs" at the breweries.

Back home we sat outside for an hour or so in the sun. It was warmer this afternoon at 68F.

Sunday morning we were up and I was onto tasks. Freya was not feeling well for whatever reason and threw up on my carpet ... so out comes the little carpet shampooer again. Another dose of Kaopectate fixed her right up. After doing my chores, including cutting my bangs and Ray's hair, I headed out by myself to Safeway to pick up some meat and a few other things that Walmart does not have. Back at home at noon Ray said Freya had been fine so we left her behind and headed out to try another craft brewery for lunch.

We only like the Hefeweizen.... the rest too hoppy.

After a beverage and fish and chips for lunch, we walked around a little bit getting the flavour of Downtown Flagstaff. These people must do a lot of drinking. On every block there is either a brewery or a wine and spirits bar or restaurants that advertise beer first and food second! Definitely a college town with mostly young people walking around. Great old buildings.

Route 66

There was a lovely candy shop so we went in and I bought a selection of chocolates ... mostly for Ray.

Ray took a picture of the old Flagstaff Train Station which is still operational as Amtrak Station and Visitors Centre.

Flagstaff has a long logging history. This engine had been in service for over 60 years.

Another way to "Pub Tour".

Back home by 3 pm , we had a quiet rest of the day. We find that after having 2 weeks without any TV we are not watching it near as much as we did. lol I do like the music channels though.

  1. A daily pub crawl! You two are awesome lol. That 3 sausage pizza looks amazing actually. Hope the gremlins are out of the rig for a while. Don't need those problems on the road.
