Grand Canyon Day 4 Red Bus to Hermit's Rest

Monday

Ray and I decided to do the bus trip to Hermit’s rest today and were waiting at the bus stop near our campsite at 9am. Hermit's Rest is another building designed by Mary Colter.

You take this shuttle to the Marketplace and then jump on another Blue Route to the Village and then jump on the Red Route Bus that takes you down the road adjacent to the Rim Trail to Hermit’s Rest. A gorgeous day but still only about 50F.

At the bus stop at the Trailer Village, we met Grace and Michael Nistler.

They are into photography like Ray, so it was nice to travel the route together. The total bus ride is about 80 minutes but with getting off at most of the viewpoints it took us 2 ½ hours before we arrived back at the Village. The views are spectacular.

First stop is Maricopa Point.

Then we stopped at Powell and Hopi Point.

You take a picture of us ... we will take a picture of you. lol

Back on the shuttle to Mohave Point.

Is that rafters that I see against the left bank before the rapids?

Yup, So it is.

The next stop is called The Abyss, but nothing of interest, so we passed the next stop as well. Our final stop before Hermit's Rest i,s Pima Point, spectacular.

A peek a boo look at the Hermit's Rapids a mile down below.

This tree is so old it has wrinkles.
Last stop, Hermit's Rest.

Hermit's Rest with a gift shop and snack bar. Another Mary Colter designed building.

Once back home, we all took half an hour to walk our dogs and then we piled into our car and went to the Maswik Lodge for Pizza and beer with Mike and Grace. Also, I needed to call Dish TV again that we still do not have any local channels and are missing 2 of my favourite channels. I spent half an hour on the phone with Dish TV, trying to eat my pizza and drink my beer at a different table while the other three ate their lunch in peace. Lol

Back home we sat outside for a couple of hours in our loungers before coming inside for the rest of the day. Ray is a little sore so needs to have “toes up” time. Tried the TV again … and still no local channels. “You are out of the viewing area!” They cannot find us for some reason???

That was our adventure for today.
